AAP’ Sanjeev Jha urges Delhi CM to give relief to farmers for damaged crops

Jha, in his letter, urged the CM to provide immediate assistance to the farmers of Burari assembly constituency whose crops were destroyed due to rising water level of Yamuna river, and informed her that the continuous rise in the river’s water level has also resulted in water-logging, due to which a large section of farmers’ crops in Burari constituency were submerged, and got damaged.

Floods in the Yamuna have submerged crops in Delhi’s low-lying areas, leaving hundreds of farmers facing a grave livelihood crisis.

Raising the issue, AAP leader and MLA from Burari assembly constituency, Sanjeev Jha on Monday wrote to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, demanding an immediate survey of the damage and timely compensation for affected farmers, whose crops got damaged in the city’s low lying areas after Yamuna waters spread into floodplains.

Jha, in his letter, urged the CM to provide immediate assistance to the farmers of Burari assembly constituency whose crops were destroyed due to rising water level of Yamuna river, and informed her that the continuous rise in the river’s water level has also resulted in water-logging, due to which a large section of farmers’ crops in Burari constituency were submerged, and got damaged.

He wrote, “This disaster has created a serious livelihood crisis for numerous farmer families in the region. These crops were the result of several months of hard work, but they have been wiped out by this sudden natural calamity. Hundreds of farmer families have lost their income, and their financial situation has become extremely dire,” Jha added.

He claimed that during the past, in similar circumstances earlier, the government had conducted immediate special surveys and provided affected farmers with compensation and relief, which helped them at the right time.

He further again requested the CM to conduct a special survey in Burari constituency without delay, assess the destroyed crops, and provide appropriate compensation and immediate relief to the affected farmers at the earliest.
